IN LOVING MEMORY......

Dr. Kevin Allen Mack was born on November 21, 1958, in Grosse Pointe, Michigan to Katherine and Thomas Mack. He passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2011. He was 52 years old.

Kevin was a devoted husband and father. He met his husband, Naoki, 20 years ago in Hawai’i where he attended the University of Hawai’i John A. Burns School of Medicine. His training took him to Boston, New York, and Italy, and ultimately brought him to San Francisco. Kevin and Naoki were married in 2008 at San Francisco City Hall surrounded by their family and friends, most notably their two children, Chiaki (7) and Nobu (4).

As a psychiatrist, Kevin dedicated his practice to the underserved. In addition to the time he spent seeing patients, he was passionate about advancing the field of medical education. Among his major achievements in this area was the redesign of the UC Berkeley-UCSF Joint Medical Program. Most recently, he was involved with the World Health Organization, and helped to bring a modernized medical education curriculum to Ethiopia.

Kevin touched the lives of many through his personal and professional lives. He had the ability to sincerely connect with people from all walks of life and will be remembered by all for his compassion, kindness and generosity. He was a devout Catholic, who believed in the inherent goodness and kindness of all, and inspired others to do the same.

Kevin is survived by his husband Naoki, their two children, sister Kim, brother Michael and their families. His extended family was a source of great pride and joy.

The viewing will be held on Tuesday evening, 6pm on July 19th, 2011 at St. Agnes Catholic Church on 1025 Masonic Avenue, San Francisco CA 94117.
